High-energy astrophysics research from suborbital balloon platforms has a rich history of scientific discovery that continues to the present day. One example is the discovery in the s of gamma-ray line emission at keV from the annihilation of positrons in the galactic interstellar medium. In addition to space missions, the NASA Astrophysics portfolio includes basic research and technology development, development and stewardship of national capabilities for conducting space astrophysics, and suborbital investigations. Investment choices are informed by the Decadal Surveys, other NRC.
Gravitational Physics assesses the achievements of the field over the past decade in both theory and experiment, identifies the most promising opportunities for research in the next decade, and describes the resources necessary to realize those opportunities. A major theme running through the opportunities is the exploration of strong gravitational fields, such as those associated with black. maintained through the core research program, through continued operation of existing missions and their GO programs, through the suborbital programs, and through frequent Explorer opportunities. • In order to prepare for a new strategic mission - A near term program of mission concept studies and technology development will be undertaken.
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Wayne State U., Detroit, Michigan, May - Dec Graduate Research Assistant, Physics and Astronomy, Wayne State University, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Physics and Astronomy, Wayne State University, CURRENT RESEARCH: Atomic Astrophysics Photoionization Electron-Ion Recombination. The overall goal of the NASA Astrophysics program is to understand the origin and evolution of the universe and the laws of physics that govern it. The primary criterion in selecting potential instruments for emplacement on the lunar surface was that the investigation was, on its own scientific merit, of high priority within the NASA.

The Star-Planet Activity Research CubeSat (SPARCS) is a NASA-funded astrophysics mission, devoted to the study of the ultraviolet (UV) monitoring of low-mass stars. Given their large abundance and small size, low-mass stars are prime targets for the search for and characterization of habitable zone (HZ) terrestrial exoplanets.
